After reading the comments yesterday about all the different kinds of churches and demoninations and worship styles that we “Going Beyonders” represent, I had a thought: Wouldn’t it be fun to have a “fruit basket upset” kind of Sunday, in which we all found a sister church to attend – and enjoy? I mean, if you could find another church that was completely different than your own – in race, denomination and style – that was Biblically based, and you could just go and be part of it – what a cool experience it would be!
Or, we could all just travel around with Priscilla and experience it that way – YEAH!
And I was struck with something else. That many of us have been part of very different churches along our own individual journeys. I’ve gone from Lutheran to Charismatic to Conservative Bible Church, to where I am now, Midlothian Bible Church – a place where ranchers are just as “at home” as the corporate businessman. I’ve actually seen flip-flops in the santuary at church…right next to someone in Sunday best. Worship is guitar-led and accoustic….very different from the hymnal/organ led music I sang with many years ago, but genuine just the same.
That’s what makes events like the many Priscilla is a part of so special. When women from all walks of life and all kinds of churches come together, it’s a beautiful thing to behold. This coming weekend, there is a Going Beyond conference in Lynchburg, VA and I know it will be a little slice of heaven when the music starts.
I Cor. 1:12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
I’m glad to be part of His body – aren’t you?
Rachel
PS I think I’d visit the Ghanaian church that Claudia Boateng talked about! What type of church would you like to visit – is there a type that you’ve never experienced?
