I recently picked up a copy of Jennifer Rothschild’s book, “Self Talk, Soul Talk.” that’s been on my bookshelf for quite some time. I was instantly convicted about some of the negative things in my “thought closet,” as she puts it. Curious, I stopped over at her website and loved this little quote by John Stott:
Sow a thought, reap an action.
Sow an action, reap a habit.
Sow a habit, reap a character.
Sow a character, reap a destiny.
Wow! That’s a great way to look at those thoughts – as seeds that eventually become our destiny – for bad or good. Next time I tell myself, “you’re such a failure,” I’ll replace it with this seed, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
When I feel worthless, I will say “I am the righteousness of God in Christ.”
When I feel hopeless, I will tell myself, ” but thanks be to God who gives us the victory.”
The list goes on and on….
Are you plagued by negative thoughts and self-talk? Romans 12:2 says “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” God’s word is the perfect place to start filling your mind with what GOD says about you. Replace those bad seeds with ones that will be fruitful and bring blessing.
What good “thought seeds” will you plant today? And what action can you take to make those seeds start to grow?
