During the Going Beyond Simulcast last weekend, Priscilla used an illustration that involved a Michael Jackson video. As Michael danced in the video, squares underneath his steps would light up in a very cool effect. The director had told him beforehand how important it was for him to follow the choreography exactly, even though he knew Michael was so super talented that he could do his OWN thing and still be amazing. But, if he just danced however he felt like it, the squares would not light up because they were programed to match the written choreography perfectly.

Priscilla then went on to talk about Ephesians 2:10. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. You see, even if you are super talented and can do an amazing job all on your own, you might be wondering why your path isn’t lit. Where the blessing is. Why you are not seeing fruit in your life.
Well, she said, maybe it’s time to listen to the Director. Take out the
choreography pages and go back to “square one.” Put aside your fancy
moves and find out which steps are supposed to light up. Then just dance on those squares.
And as it happened this week, I was reading Ephesians in my devotional time and ran smack into that verse. BAM. I immediately thought of those squares. Hmmm….is God trying to tell me something?
It seems so simple, doesn’t it, how when we follow God’s instruction, our steps are illuminated because we are walking in obedience. Psalm 85:13 says, Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.
I want that – how about you? I want the active illumination by God’s spirit taking place in my life, and I’ll bet you do too.
Let’s dance on God’s squares today!
