Linnae’s post about reading last week really got me to thinking about the types of books I enjoy. I will readily admit that I don’t read as much as I would like to, mostly because my days and evenings are filled with work and kids and various activities. I do keep a stack of books next to my bed, but they tend to get a little dusty by the time I get through them – or by the time I get sick of seeing them there for so long without getting finished – and just put them away.
I think part of my problem is that I LOVE a good story. I love a romantic suspense story. I like humour thrown in there. I like a great heroine. But I’ve been disappointed by non-Christian books that are filled with gratuitous inappropriate content, so I’ve given up trying to find authors I can trust.
Can I be real honest? I’ve also been disappointed with many Christian fiction books . . . maybe they seem kind of cheesy or aren’t written believeably, or just don’t quite appeal to me for some reason. Or they just look really long.
So, since ya’ll jumped in with such a fantastic response to our conversation about books, I’d like to ask you for your advice. Are there Christian authors (of fiction) you adore reading? Are there “non-Christian” books that are just FUN to read? I’ve got some pockets of time upcoming that I’d simply love to prop my feet up and curl up with a good story.
Suggestions?
Thank you!!!
