So, I told you about my new fitness app, myfitnesspal, and how I was hoping it would help me keep track of calories and exercise. It has.
And so much more.
It has ILLUMINATED me to a fact that didn’t want to face.
I eat EXACTLY my weight’s worth of calories. Consistently.
See, I was thinking that maybe something like my metabolism was messed up. Because I surely don’t eat that much, right?? I should be losing weight on the amount of food I eat! Right?? Right??
Wrong.
What this calorie/exercise tool has done is shown me the truth. My reality hadn’t been matching up with my self-delusional ideas of what I thought I was consuming….but there it is in black and white: the numbers don’t lie.
I weigh what I do because I eat what I do. I’ve been illuminated. Rats.
And this tool has reminded me of how God’s word often illuminates areas of my life that I’ve chosen to let myself believe my own deceptions.
“I am stressed out because life is so difficult.” But Phil. 4:6 says, Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and
petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. OH! I’ve forgotten about the prayer/petition/with thanksgiving part….hmmm, illuminating.
“I’m offended by my friend’s remark, it’s just inexcusable.” And then Col. 3:13 hits me upside of the head: Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
“It doesn’t really matter what I read or which movies I watch. It’s just entertainment.” Rom. 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the
renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will
of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
God has used this fitness app to make me aware of so much more than how many cookies I’ve eaten. His truth is shining a big ol’ light on the places I’d like to keep hidden. But that’s how it’s supposed to be, isn’t it? He wants his kids to walk in the light as he is in the light… so we can have fellowship with him. (1 John 1:7)
